At the end of 2020, after graduating with a Bachelor of Design and working in the industry for a few years, I left my job and jumped into the deep end with a dream to create my own freedom.
The result is Studio Perky — a brand studio that aims to set other businesses up with stunning visuals and considered strategy that will lead them through the seasons to come. For the last two years, Studio Perky has led me to meet the most amazing clients who’ve trusted me to immerse myself in their ideas and nurture them to fruition.
Being self-employed has let me embrace working at my own pace — most of my best ideas admittedly happen after midnight! Self-employment has allowed me more space to complete life admin, personal goals and passions. I attribute a lot of my current happiness to the freedom I’ve found in managing my own time.

This freedom truly came to light in August 2022 when I sold all of my belongings and found myself on a two month holiday with my partner, hopping around the UK and Eastern Europe. It was while eating too much taramasalata, driving on the opposite side of the road through dangerous mountain passes, and dancing with a family of complete strangers at a mysterious birthday party (that we had accidentally gatecrashed), that I knew I’d made the right choice to go off on my own solo career path. Having opportunities like this at my fingertips and being able to work from a hotel in Bosnia is something I don’t take for granted!
Post-holiday, we made the decision to move from Auckland to Christchurch to continue the adventure. Neither of us have spent any time here or even have any friends here, but we do both like to seek comfort in the unknown!
